2020 NO COLOR IN THE AIR, Drawings on paper
In physics, "color" manifests when light refracts through atmospheric molecules. However, in space—a vacuum void of air—the condition of color ceases to exist. There is only the harsh contrast between absolute darkness and blinding light.
The series "No Color in the Air" explores the state of "perception" in a realm where reality is reduced to the bare structure of light and shadow. This body of work serves as a conceptual extension of the artist's previous exhibition, "The Smell in the Air After the Firecracker Has Gone Off." In this continuation, the artist utilizes Charcoal—matter born from combustion leaving black traces—to simulate objects floating in the profound darkness of the universe.
From a conceptual standpoint, this work transcends historical documentation to challenge "The Status of Truth." The imagery emerging from the darkness questions the thin line between "evidence" and "fiction."
In a space devoid of air and color, what remains is raw data awaiting interpretation. The act of drawing with charcoal is an attempt to materialize memories floating in the "air" of our reality. The black void in these works represents not an absence, but an "Architecture of Silence"—a repository holding historical data that is lost, forgotten, or overlooked. It provokes the viewer to question: Does the invisible imply non-existence, or do we simply lack the proper instruments to perceive the truth suspended in the dark?
